Great Decisions Mandatory Orientation -- Afternoon

What is our country’s role in the world? How does our foreign policy affect trade, migration, conflict and environmental issues? How are the political and social trends in our nation reflected around the globe? 

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs.  The course model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book on your own (approx. 15 pages a week), watching a 30 minute documentary together then discussing what we have learned.This 9 week course, created by the Foreign Policy Association to educate the public about current events, includes the following topics for 2024 (exact dates for each topic TBD):

• Mandatory Orientation -- Monday, January 29, 2-3:30pm (course materials will be distributed at this time)
• Mideast Realignment
• Climate Technology and Competition
• Science Across Borders
• U.S. - China Trade Rivalry
• NATO's Future
• Understanding Indonesia
• High Seas Treaty
• Pandemic Preparedness

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!  Registration will open at 10am on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 on this same webpage.  All participants must have an active Summit County Library card.  Library cards are free for Summit County residents/employees and $25/year for nonresidents. Class size is limited to 45 participants, first come first served.

All classes will be held in the Auditorium of the Kimball Junction Branch Library, and we ask that participants commit to attending a minimum of 6 classes in addition to the Mandatory Orientation.  We will meet on consecutive Mondays, 2-3:30pm starting January 29 and ending April 8. We will not have class on  February 19 (Presidents' Day) or March 4 (Presidential Primary Election.)  Class participation and diverse viewpoints are welcome!  Please contact Murph at smurphy@summitcounty.org or 435-336-3069 if you have any questions.
